Vietnamese clay harvested from the Mekong Delta produces some of the worlds best pottery.  It is very dense and when fired at over 2000 degrees F, it morphs into a solid and freeze resistant pot.  It will not pop the surface or the glaze.  However, it must be able to drain the water from the inside so it does not get trapped and expand.
